Artist Definitions

Artist Proof :

Artist Proof is a special subset of the regular limited edition.  They are hand pulled from the press and each one inspected and approved by the artist.  They are the first prints off the press and are what the rest of the edition is judged by. Usually these are only sold by the artist.  In these days of mass marketing getting something directly from the artist is rare.  Artist proofs are signed A/P or Artist Proof and may or may not be numbered with the serial number of that portion of the edition.  Artist Proofs are generally considered a status symbol in the world of art collecting.  And their resale value is proportionately higher than the numbered editions.

Limited Edition Print :

An edition of identical prints, numbered sequentially and individually signed by the artist, having a stated limit to the number in the edition.  The edition sizes of each art work varies at the discretion of the artist.  These prints form the main part of the edition.  Following publication the printing plates are destroyed or kept by the artist.  If a limited edition is sold out no other prints will be made. This is the reason the artist has all rights to the plate used.
Open Edition:

Open edition are reprinted according to public demand.  Smaller in size, unnumbered and signed only with the signature art work is printed with.  For these reasons open editions are less expensive.  For those who want a nice picture without interest in a limited collectible piece.
COA :

Certificate of Authenticity states that the particular piece is authentic.  The number stated on the print matches the number on the certificate.  It has the name of the piece, artist signature and states the sequential order for the indvidual piece sold.  It also states that no other editions will be printed when the piece is sold out.  That the buyer/owner has the one and only piece named.
